Silicon Valley CPAs & Accountants for Tax, Bookkeeping, and IRS Work

Our team has Silicon Valley CPAs and Accountants serving founders, tech employees, and small businesses across San Jose, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Fremont, and the greater South Bay. Whether you need a return prepared, a business's books reconciled every month, or someone standing next to you in an IRS audit, our team combines CPA and Enrolled Agent credentials with two decades of Bay Area practice.

Silicon Valley Tax has served the Bay Area for over 23 years from our office at 2051 Junction Ave, Suite 200, San Jose. We work with clients across the entire Valley: in person at our office, on Zoom, or by phone and secure portal once the relationship is established. To book a complimentary consultation, call (408) 383-9870 or use the online booking form.

Who We Serve

"Silicon Valley accountant" means something different depending on who is asking. Our practice covers four core client profiles, and most clients fit more than one as their situation evolves.

Startup founders

Entity selection, QSBS planning under Section 1202, R&D tax credits, and the tax mechanics of a raise or an exit. We work with founders from formation through sale. See our tax accountant for startup founders page for the full detail.

RSU-heavy tech employees

Equity compensation is the largest single income item for most Silicon Valley tech employees, and the standard payroll withholding on RSU vests is almost always too low. We calculate the shortfall, set up estimated payments, and plan ISO exercises around AMT exposure. See RSU withholding tax planning and California RSU tax planning.

Small businesses

Entity tax preparation, monthly bookkeeping and payroll, and CFO-level advisory for small and mid-size Silicon Valley businesses, from single-member LLCs to multi-partner practices. See small business CPA San Jose and bookkeeping services San Jose.

Real estate investors

Depreciation strategy, cost segregation, 1031 exchanges, and passive activity loss rules for Silicon Valley landlords and multi-property investors. See real estate investor CPA.

Our Services

We built our service line around the situations Silicon Valley clients actually bring us, not a generic menu.

  • Individual tax preparation: federal and California returns for equity compensation, multi-state income, trust K-1s, and high-complexity personal situations.
  • Entity tax preparation: S corps, C corps, partnerships, and LLCs, including multi-member and multi-state filings.
  • Bookkeeping & payroll: monthly reconciliation, financial statements, and payroll processing so your books are audit-ready and your filings are never a scramble.
  • IRS audit representation: a licensed CPA or Enrolled Agent handles correspondence and negotiation with the IRS and California FTB on your behalf, so you are never in that room alone.
  • Entity structure & formation: choosing and setting up the right entity for a new business, or restructuring an existing one ahead of a raise, sale, or growth stage.
  • CFO & advisory services: fractional CFO support, cash flow forecasting, and board-ready financials for growing businesses that are not yet ready for a full-time finance hire.

Why Silicon Valley Teams Choose Us

Silicon Valley clients have access to every major accounting firm in the Bay Area. What sets a smaller, focused practice apart is specialization and continuity.

Bay Area specialization

We work almost exclusively with Silicon Valley situations: equity compensation, startup formation and exit planning, and multi-state complexity created by a mobile tech workforce. That concentration means faster answers and fewer surprises, because we have seen your situation before.

Bilingual and Mandarin-language service

A significant share of our client base is Mandarin-speaking, and several team members conduct meetings, correspondence, and document review in Mandarin. See our Mandarin tax services page and our U.S. tax filing guide in Mandarin.

CPAs and Enrolled Agents on our team

Our team has CPAs and IRS Enrolled Agents, and every return is reviewed by a credentialed professional before it is filed. See our Enrolled Agent San Jose page for more on what an EA can do for IRS representation specifically.

Meet Two of Our Silicon Valley CPAs and EAs

Al Nuñez, CPA/JD is our Managing Partner. Before joining Silicon Valley Tax, Al held roles including Managing Director at Andersen Tax in San Francisco and Partner at RSM US LLP. He leads our entity structuring, QSBS, and complex individual tax work.

Grace Hui, EA is our Senior Enrolled Agent and the signer of record on client filings. Grace reviews returns across the firm before they go out the door, and she represents clients directly in front of the IRS on audits, notices, and collections matters.

Coverage Areas

We serve clients throughout Silicon Valley and the greater South Bay, with dedicated pages for many of the communities we work in most:

Local Office and Engagement Formats

Our office is at 2051 Junction Ave Suite 200, San Jose CA 95131, central to the entire Silicon Valley corridor. We offer four formats:

  • In-person at our San Jose office. Annual planning meetings run 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Virtual via Zoom and secure portal. Document exchange through our SOC 2 compliant portal, meeting by Zoom.
  • Phone and portal for ongoing clients. Most year-over-year work happens by phone and portal upload without formal meetings.
  • Weekend and evening appointments. We are open seven days a week for clients with demanding schedules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Silicon Valley Tax have CPAs on staff?

Yes. Our team includes CPAs and IRS Enrolled Agents, including Al Nuñez, CPA/JD, our Managing Partner, and Grace Hui, EA, our senior reviewer and signer of record. Every return that leaves our office is reviewed by a credentialed professional before it is filed.

What is the difference between a CPA and an Enrolled Agent?

A CPA is licensed at the state level and can perform audits, attest to financial statements, and represent clients before the IRS. An Enrolled Agent is licensed federally by the IRS specifically to prepare returns and represent taxpayers in front of the agency, including audits, collections, and appeals. Both credentials require passing rigorous exams and completing continuing education. Our team uses both credentials depending on the engagement, and every client's preparer works under review before filing.

Do you work with small businesses, not just tech employees?

Yes. Alongside individual tax preparation for founders and equity-compensated employees, we serve small and mid-size businesses across the Bay Area with entity tax preparation, monthly bookkeeping, payroll, and CFO advisory. Our small business clients range from single-member LLCs to multi-partner professional practices and real estate investment entities.

Is Silicon Valley Tax a CPA firm?

Silicon Valley Tax, LLC provides tax preparation, bookkeeping, and advisory services, and our team includes CPAs and Enrolled Agents who hold their own individual licenses. We are not a CBA-registered CPA firm as an entity. Clients who need attest work are referred to our attest-licensed partners as needed.

Do you offer bilingual or Mandarin-language service?

Yes. A significant share of our Silicon Valley client base is Mandarin-speaking, and several team members conduct meetings and correspondence in Mandarin. See our dedicated Mandarin tax services page for details on bilingual document review and consultations.

Why Silicon Valley Residents and Businesses Choose Us

The question is not whether a large firm can prepare your return. It is whether you get a dedicated relationship with a senior practitioner who knows your situation year over year, or whether you rotate through different staff each spring. We are a focused practice. Our team has Silicon Valley CPAs and Accountants who hold planning conversations before December 31, not after April 15, and our fees are flat and known upfront.

If you are looking at a Silicon Valley tax or accounting situation, whether personal, business, or both, we are happy to take a complimentary consultation call. No commitment to engage, no sales pressure. Call (408) 383-9870 or book online.
