Mandarin Small Business Tax Services

Small-business tax decisions are connected. The entity you choose affects the return you file. The way you pay yourself affects payroll and estimated taxes. The quality of the books affects whether the business return and owner return can be prepared without a last-minute reconstruction. For Mandarin-speaking owners, those decisions are easier when the tax professional can explain the tradeoffs in Mandarin or English and review the records directly.

Silicon Valley Tax works with Bay Area owners of restaurants, retail companies, online businesses, professional practices, real estate entities, and technology companies. Our team includes Mandarin-speaking CPAs and Enrolled Agents who coordinate business tax, bookkeeping, payroll records, and the owner’s personal return.

  • Entity formation and tax-structure discussions with legal coordination when needed.
  • 1120-S, 1065, and 1120 preparation, including K-1s and supporting schedules.

  • Estimated tax planning for the business and its owners.
  • Payroll and contractor-payment coordination, including 1099 records.
  • Owner compensation, distributions, retirement-plan, and year-end planning.
  • Individual returns that incorporate business income, K-1s, and foreign-account questions.

Entity and Owner Compensation

An LLC, S corporation, and C corporation are not interchangeable labels. Each can involve different filing, payroll, ownership, distribution, and administrative considerations. We start by understanding how the business earns money, who owns it, how profits are used, and what the owner wants the business to do over the next several years. An entity decision should not be made from a generic online chart.

For an S corporation, owner compensation and payroll need to be handled consistently with the business’s work and finances. Distributions are not a substitute for recordkeeping. For partnerships and multi-owner LLCs, capital accounts, guaranteed payments, contributions, and distributions need to be reflected consistently in the books and K-1s.

Tax-Ready Books

Monthly bookkeeping provides an early view of revenue, payroll, expenses, merchant fees, inventory, debt, and cash. It also makes tax planning more useful. If the books are not reconciled, an estimated payment is based on guesswork. If owner transfers are not classified, the return may require unnecessary cleanup or create questions about basis.

We can work with an existing QuickBooks Online file or help establish a clean process. The first step is to identify the current state: unreconciled accounts, missing statements, duplicate entries, personal expenses, payroll liabilities, sales tax, and related-party transactions. We document what is known and what still needs support.

Business Types We Serve

Family-owned and service businesses

Owners often handle operations, sales, staffing, and bookkeeping at the same time. We help create a monthly rhythm so the books do not become a year-end emergency.

Restaurants and retail

Daily sales, merchant settlements, inventory, tips, payroll, and sales tax need to be matched to bank activity. Clear categorization helps the owner understand gross revenue and the cash that actually reaches the bank.

Real estate and investment companies

Each property or investment activity should be identifiable in the books. Repairs, improvements, debt, contributions, distributions, and rental income can have different tax treatment.

What to Bring to a Business Tax Review

Bring the prior business and owner returns, formation documents, ownership percentages, payroll summaries, year-to-date profit and loss, balance sheet, bank and credit-card statements, loan statements, sales-tax records, and a list of major purchases. If the business has related-party transactions, include a simple explanation of who paid whom and why.

For a new or changing business, bring expected revenue, number of owners, where work is performed, whether profits will be retained, whether employees will be hired, and whether the company owns property or inventory. The best structure is the one that fits the business and can be maintained. A theoretical tax benefit that the owner cannot administer is not a reliable plan.

We separate immediate filing work from planning work. A return may need to be filed now, while compensation, retirement contributions, equipment purchases, or entity changes may be decisions for later in the year. Keeping those workstreams separate helps the owner know what needs attention this week and what can be modeled before the next quarter.

Year-Round Communication

Owners do not need to wait until the end of the year to ask a tax question. Contact us before hiring employees, buying equipment, taking a large distribution, adding an owner, signing a lease, or moving money between the business and a family account. A short conversation at the right time can identify a recordkeeping step that makes the later return much easier to prepare.

We keep the advice connected to the business’s actual records. That means a recommendation is accompanied by the documents, deadlines, and people responsible for carrying it out. Mandarin-speaking owners can ask follow-up questions in the language they prefer.

We can also help owners establish a calendar for estimated taxes, payroll filings, sales-tax filings, annual reports, and tax-return deadlines. The calendar is tailored to the entity and the owner’s facts. It makes responsibilities visible when the business is busy and reduces the chance that an important filing is left to memory.

When the business grows, the process can grow with it. A second location, new investors, a new state, a foreign supplier, or a family ownership change may require a refreshed tax and bookkeeping plan. We help identify the change early and coordinate the records needed for the next return.

That continuity helps the owner make decisions with current information instead of last year’s numbers.
